Early Start Denver Model and parent coaching
Developed by the MIND Institute in California, the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is an evidence-based, behavioural early intervention program specifically developed for very young children with developmental delay aged between 12 months and 4 years.
Part of our services.
What ESDM involves
ESDM is a play-based intervention integrating behavioural and developmental principles. ESDM can be implemented across a variety of natural settings such as the home or the daycare/kindergarten as well as with parents within play and daily routines.
For parents
A book written for parents, An Early Start for Your Child with Autism, is a guide to using everyday activities to help kids connect, communicate, and learn.
We also offer parent coaching to help you confidently use ESDM strategies within your daily routines — such as mealtimes, play, or getting ready in the morning.
Questions families ask
Do I need a referral?
- Private clients can start without a GP or paediatrician referral. For Medicare, book with your usual GP (or a GP at your MyMedicare practice) for a Mental Health Treatment Plan, or ask a paediatrician or psychiatrist about a direct referral, before your psychology appointment. Referrals must be dated prior to or on the day of your scheduled appointment and cannot be back-dated.
What ages do you see?
- It depends on the clinician and the service. The Early Start Denver Model is for very young children with developmental delay, aged between 12 months and 4 years. Tayla has a particular interest in working with children aged 7 years and older, and with teenagers. Sebastian supports children, adolescents and adults. Contact the clinic and we will help you find the right fit.
