Assessments
At Tic Tac Toe we offer cognitive, educational, autism and ADHD assessments.
Part of our services.
Cognitive assessment
A cognitive assessment (Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence – Fourth Edition or Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition) is a clinical tool used to assess a person’s intellectual functioning. It can assist with identifying an individual’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, identify intellectual giftedness or disability, and inform intervention and recommendations.
Autism assessment
ASD assessments include diagnostic interview (such as Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised), Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition, cognitive assessment and additional assessment questionnaires to be completed by parents, teachers or other family members.
Educational assessment
An educational assessment is a systematic process that evaluates a student's academic and learning abilities, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs. The goal of an educational assessment is to improve student learning and refine programs.
The results of an educational assessment can help parents and educators make informed decisions about a child's educational placement, learning environment, and individual needs.
ADHD assessment
An ADHD assessment looks at attention, activity and impulse control at home and at school. It usually includes a clinical interview, questionnaires for parents and, where relevant, teachers, and a review of developmental and school history. It may be completed alongside a cognitive assessment when that helps explain learning or attention needs.
Tayla provides ADHD assessments at the clinic. You do not need a referral to book privately. Medicare rebates depend on an appropriate medical referral.
Assessment packages
Please contact us to discuss your assessment needs and receive a quote. Packages depend on the assessment type and what is clinically required for your child.
Every assessment includes a comprehensive written report and a feedback session.
Eligible children may be able to claim Medicare rebates for assessment under the complex neurodevelopmental conditions pathway, with an appropriate medical referral.
Questions families ask
Do I need a referral?
- Private clients can start without a GP or paediatrician referral. For Medicare, book with your usual GP (or a GP at your MyMedicare practice) for a Mental Health Treatment Plan, or ask a paediatrician or psychiatrist about a direct referral, before your psychology appointment. Referrals must be dated prior to or on the day of your scheduled appointment and cannot be back-dated.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate?
- On the day of your appointment, payment is settled in full. For sessions with a registered psychologist, the clinic can process your Medicare rebate into your nominated account, or give you a paid receipt so you can claim it yourself. Medicare rebates under Better Access are only available for sessions with a registered psychologist, not with a provisional psychologist. Eligible children may also access Medicare rebates for assessment services under the complex neurodevelopmental conditions and eligible disabilities pathway, with an appropriate medical referral.
What ages do you see?
- It depends on the clinician and the service. The Early Start Denver Model is for very young children with developmental delay, aged between 12 months and 4 years. Tayla has a particular interest in working with children aged 7 years and older, and with teenagers. Sebastian supports children, adolescents and adults. Contact the clinic and we will help you find the right fit.
How long does an assessment take?
- Timing varies by assessment type. Assessments include an initial consultation with parents or caregivers, one-to-one sessions with your child, a comprehensive written report with results and recommendations, and a feedback session. Contact the clinic to discuss your child's assessment and receive a quote.
